Social Determinants of Health

Social determinants of health (SDOH) have a major impact on people’s health, well-being, and quality of life. SDOH can be grouped into 5 domains:


Neighborhood and the Built Environment:
Healthy People 2030 Goal: Create neighborhoods and environments that promote health and safety.

Healthcare Quality and Access:
Healthy People 2030 Goal: Increase access to comprehensive, high-quality health care services.

Social and Community Context:
Healthy People 2030 Goal: Increase social and community support.

Education Access and Quality:
Healthy People 2030 Goal: Increase educational opportunities to help children and adolescents do well in school.

Economic Stability:
Healthy People 2030 Goal: Help people earn steady incomes that help them meet their health needs.
